This Indenture, made this twentieth day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty eight, Between Samuel G. Norman of the County of Thomas in said State, of the one part, and Joseph F. McGowen, of Liberty County in the same State, of the other part, witnesseth that the said Samuel G. Norman, for and in consideration of the sum of fifty dollars to him in hand well and truly paid by the said Joseph F. McGowen the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, Hath granted, bargained, sold and conveyed, and by these presents Doth grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Joseph F. McGowen, his heirs and assigns forever All that undivided one fourth of a tract of land, containing four hundred acres, be the same more or less, situate lying and being in the County of Liberty aforesaid, originally granted to Richard Norman on the first day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twelve [see Note*], and recorded in the Secretary of State's office in Book I.5. page 156.  To have and to hold the afore granted premises to the said Joseph F. McGowen, his heirs and assigns forever. I do covenant with the said Joseph F. McGowen, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, that the premises aforesaid are free from all incumbrances [sic], that I have good right to sell and dispose of the same in manner as aforesaid, and that I the said Samuel G. Norman, for myself and my heirs, will warrant and defend the same against all lawful claims & demands whatsoever. --

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first before written.

Personally appeared before me Wm. N. Way, who being duly sworn, deposeth, and saith he saw the within deed executed by Samuel G. Norman and that was a subscribing witness, and saw Matthew Bennet sign the same __ [on?] Jany 26, 1830.

*Note: Richard Norman died in 1809, so this land was originally granted to his estate.
